HISTORY
Introducing Robert & Susan Lieff
Robert Lieff first came to the Napa Valley in 1960, the summer after his second year at Columbia Law School. He had just read Jack Kerouac’s ON THE ROAD. He was broke, he needed a job and got one - as a migrant farm worker picking cherries in the Napa Valley. The cherry picking experience would influence his life and his practice of law.
Robert’s interest in terroir, soil, land, and vines led him to purchase and create many vineyards over the past 60 years.
Today, Robert and his wife Susan have California vineyards in the central coast and in the Napa Valley.

Quality Focused Wines
LIEFF RANCH wines showcase the best that central coast California vineyards have to offer. Robert’s prestigious work as a pioneer in the early days of the California wine movement inspired him to create a brand that spoke to the versatility of his various estates’ terroir. With small-level production and quality-focused wines, LIEFF RANCH wines are bright, naturally made, and are excellent paired with appropriate cuisine.

In 2009, with the County of San Luis Obispo, Robert Lieff created a second conservation easement at Alamo Creek Ranch protecting the front 250 acres.
Robert and Susan Lieff are dedicated to regenerative viticulture. Their vineyards are low-til and no-til. Native ground covers are encouraged, and nutrient rich ground covers are planted.
There are many owl nesting boxes on site. Owls are an environmentally sound way to curb rodent issues through natural predators versus poison, allowing our entire ecosystem to grow and benefit.
